Conditions We Treat & Treatment Options

Acne

Acne spots and cysts can appear on the face and body as a result of pores becoming blocked by oil, dirt and other impurities. Some pores become infected by normal bacteria living on the skin. Skin changes throughout our lives and acne is often associated with periods of change in our hormones like puberty, pregnancy and associated with certain medications and lifestyle habits. Sometimes the cause is unknown and can also be genetic.

Treatment Options

• LED light therapy (Celluma)

• Tailored at home skin care

• Chemical or enzymatic peels

• Microneedling (for acne scars)

Acne scarring

Acne can cause permanent scarring when the body’s natural healing process over produces collagen in the skin’s healing phase. The scars appear as small physical indentations or craters across the skin, giving it an uneven and damaged appearance.

Treatment Options

• Chemical or enzymatic peels

• Microneedling

• Topical at home skin care

Age Spots

Age spots are small areas of discolouration that frequently appear on the face, hands and other parts of the body regularly exposed to the sun. Most often they are caused by sun exposure and can be known as sunspots, sun’s kisses or liver spots.

Treatment Options

• Chemical or enzymatic peels

• Tailored at home skin care

Crows Feet (Smile lines)

Crow's feet is the term used to describe the fine lines and wrinkles found at the outer corners of your eyes. They are caused by a combination of loss of skin elasticity and collagen, and skin movement by the underlying muscle.

Treatment Options

• Anti-wrinkle injections

• Microneedling

• Chemical or enzymatic peels

• LED Light therapy (Celluma)

• Tailored at home skin care

• Profhilo

Dark Eye Circles

Dark under eye circles can be caused by pigmentation, volume loss or by the expansion of blood vessels showing beneath the skin in the under eye area. These can look worse with lack of sleep, dehydration and allergies, which cause the blood vessels to swell. As we age our skin becomes thinner, making the dark circles more visible.

Treatment Options

• Tailored at home skin care

• Microneedling

• Skin boosters/Profhilo

• Fillers

Dry Skin

Dry skin is usually genetic but sometimes a result of medical skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Other exacerbating factors include: change in climate, cold or dry weather, dehydration and not consuming enough water, washing with harsh soaps or astringent skincare, including those containing alcohol. It can also be made worse by shaving or occupational exposure.

Treatment Options

• LED Light therapy

• Tailored at home skin care

• Microneedling

• Profhilo

• Chemical or enzymatic peels

Enlarged Pores

Pores are present all over the face at the site of each hair follicle. They can appear enlarged when they become blocked (due to excess oil and impurities on the skin surface), due to loss of skin elasticity with age or sun damage. We can't get rid of pores but we can make them appear smaller.

Treatment Options

• Chemical or Enzymatic peels

• Microneedling

• Tailored at home skin care

Facial Volume Loss

As we age, we begin to lose collagen, elastin, fat and bone in our face. This is particularly evident around areas like the cheeks, temples and chin. When this happens, our skin loses support and becomes lax and flappy. This results in jowls and a sagging appearance across our face, and deeper lines and folds, making us look and feel less youthful. Understanding the ageing process and the anatomy involved is key to natural rejuvenation treatments.

Treatment Options

Forehead Lines

Forehead lines are the horizontal lines that appear on the forehead when you raise your eyebrows. Over time the repeated skin folding and decreased volume, due to collagen reduction, cause permanent lines in the skin above the eyebrows.

Treatment Options

• Anti-wrinkle injections

• Microneedling

Chemical or enzymatic peels

LED light therapy

Frown Lines

Over time repeated skin folding and decreased volume, due to collagen reduction, cause permanent lines in the skin between the eyebrows. These lines can become more noticeable as we age and can make us look worried and stressed, even if we are not feeling this way.

Treatment Options

• Anti-wrinkle injections

• Microneedling

Chemical peels

LED light therapy

Gummy Smile

Caused by a naturally high smile line or over activity of the upper lip lifting muscles, causing the lip to lift higher, revealing more of the gum tissue.

Treatment Options

Anti-wrinkle injections (to soften the smile and stop the upper lip rising too high above the teeth)

Lip fillers

Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating)

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating, which means sweating more than normal. Excessive sweating is common and can affect the whole body or just certain areas.

Treatment Options

• Anti-wrinkle injections (Botulinum toxin) can be used to temporarily block the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.

Hyperpigmentation (Melasma)

A tan or dark skin discolouration caused by sun exposure, genetic predisposition, hormone changes or skin irritation (such as infection and acne spots). The use of oral birth control pills, stress and thyroid disease can also cause hyperpigmentation.

Treatment Options

Jowls

Jowls are caused by excess loose skin on the jawline, under the chin and around the neck. Caused by loss of skin elasticity, loss and migration in the fat and changes in bone with age, resulting in less support for the overlying tissues, which descends with gravity.

Treatment Options

Loose/Sagging Skin

Sagging skin occurs due to reduction in collagen production and replacement, resulting in reduced elasticity and tightness within the skin. Underlying fat and bone changes with age result in a smaller frame to hold up the looser overlying skin. This looser skin, with less structure holding it up, creates sagging, lines and wrinkles, jowls, marionette lines and nose to mouth or nasolabial fold lines. Understanding the underlying anatomy and the ageing process is the key to treatment.

Treatment Options

Marionette Lines

Marionette lines are the vertical lines that appear between the corners of the mouth and the chin. They develop by repeated skin folding, decreased volume in the face and loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin.

Treatment Options

Neck Wrinkles/Sagging

Neck Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the ageing process, caused by the continued folding and movement of the skin by muscles underneath, exacerbated by gradual collagen loss and changes in facial volume and skin elasticity as we age.

Treatment Options

Nose to Mouth Lines

Otherwise known as Nasolabial folds, these are the deep lines that appear between the corners of the mouth and the nose. They are created over time by repeated skin folding and decreased volume in our cheek fat, bone reabsorption and collagen reduction, causing permanent volume reduction in the cheeks and sagging of the overlying skin.

Treatment Options

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease characterised by patches of red, dry, itchy, scaly skin, produced when skin cell production is faster that the surrounding skin area. Most commonly seen on the knees, elbows, scalp and lower back. Patches may be irritated, painful and itchy.

Treatment Options

Receding Chin

Some people have a naturally small or receded chin, where the lower jaw is set further back than the upper jaw, creating a flatter look and less defined chin. This can also develop due to skin, fat and bone changes as we age.

Treatment Options

• Dermal fillers

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition characterised by redness, dilated blood vessels, stinging sensations and sometimes spots and sebaceous gland hyperplasia (enlarged oil glands). The cause of rosacea is unknown. Certain things can trigger a flare up, such as sun exposure, alcohol, caffeine consumption, diet and stress. There is no current cure for rosacea and treatment helps control the symptoms.

Treatment Options

Smokers Lines

Smokers lines form around the lip area as lips get thinner with age and have less support around them. They don't just occur in smokers! Thin lips are often genetic and progressive as we age, due to collagen loss in the skin and lower face.

Treatment Options

Teeth Grinding/Clenching

Teeth grinding can cause dental problems, facial, neck and jaw pain as well as headaches. It is often related to stress and anxiety and commonly happens unconsciously at night.

Treatment Options

Thin Lips

The thin skin on our lips is particularly vulnerable to ageing as our bodies produce less collagen over time. We also lose the cushioning fat pads in our lips as we age, resulting in thinner looking lips. When our lips lose volume it increasing the likelihood of wrinkles and smoker’s lines developing as well as a ‘sad- mouthed’ or ‘drooping mouth’ appearance.

Treatment Options

Weak Jawline

A weak jawline is often genetic and characterised by a flat and rounded jawline. Ageing accentuates the rounding, as bones become flatter and fat deposits around the jaw and jowls.

Treatment Options

• Dermal fillers

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are caused by the continued folding and movement of the skin by muscles underneath, exacerbated by gradual collagen loss and changes in facial volume and skin elasticity as we age.
